Will I ever understand why?

I once tried to break free
Tried to feel the dark waters crash around
to let them wash away the tears
to see If the ropes around me let go of their grip

I tried to understand what went wrong
why the ropes kept gripping harder
why the harder the tears came
the more the dark waters turned violent

Then I understood
I was holdin' on to something
something that had long ago gone by
and the more i cried
the more i couldn't break free

...so...

I let go...I broke free...

and no more tears for nothing
